FAQ

What is Thrive OT Your Way?

Thrive OT Your Way is a private occupational therapy practice helping adults live safely, confidently, and independently at home and in the community through personalized, one-on-one patient care.

What makes Thrive OT Your Way different?

Care is individualized, relationship-based, and provided in real-life home and community environments rather than a traditional clinic. Therapy focuses on practical solutions and supports everyday life.

Is Thrive OT Your Way a home health agency?

No.  Thrive OT Your Way is not a home health company.  Services are outpatient occupational therapy only and do not include nursing, aides, or other therapy disciplines.

Who do you work with?

Adults who want to improve safety, independence, and confidence, especially after stroke, injury, falls, illness, or other changes affecting daily life.

What's the difference between Occupational Therapy (OT)

and Physical Therapy (PT)?

Both Occupational Therapy (OT) and Physical Therapy (PT) address movement, strength, balance, and mobility.  Physical therapy often focuses on restoring movement and physical function, such as walking, transferring, and recovering strength or range of motion.  Occupational Therapy also addresses movement, balance, and mobility, but always in the context of daily life.  OT focuses on how those physical abilities impact your ability to safely perform meaningful activities such as bathing, dressing, cooking, managing your home, returning to work and participating in the community.

What conditions do you commonly help with?

Stroke, neurological conditions, balance and fall, risk, arthritis, joint replacements, chronic illness, cognitive changes, and age-related functional decline.

Do I need to be injured or recently hospitalized to benefit from OT?

Not at all.  Occupational therapy can support aging-in-place, fall prevention, home safety, energy conservation and maintaining independence.

What kinds of goals can OT help with?

Daily activities such as dressing, bathing, cooking, home safety, balance, strength, memory strategies, and returning to meaningful routines.

Where do therapy sessions take place?

Sessions take place in your home or community settings such as the grocery store, workplace, church, or other meaningful locations.

What does a typical visit look like?

Visits are hands-on and collaborative.  Therapy focuses on real tasks in real environments, with problem-solving and education built in.

How long and how often are visits?

Visit length and frequency are individualized based on your goals, needs and preferences.  During the initial evaluation, we will work together to establish a plan of care that makes the most sense for you.  Visits are approximately 60 minutes and include time for assessment, education and practice.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

A referral is not needed for general preventative and wellness visits. For visits related to a specific illness or injury, a physician's referral is required.  If a referral is needed, guidance will be provided.

Do you accept insurance?

While we are not in-network with insurance carriers, we will provide you with a superbill that you can use to file with your insurance. In many cases, insurance may reimburse you a substantial portion of your expenses.

Can family members or caregivers be involved?

Absolutely. Family and caregiver involvement is encouraged and often essential for long-term success.

How do I get started?

Simply reach out by phone, email, or the website contact form.  A brief conversation can help determine if Thrive OT Your Way is a good fit for your needs.

Do you offer consultations?

Yes. Free 15 minute phone consultations are available to discuss your concerns and next steps.

What areas do you serve?

We serve the Auburn and Opelika communities.

What if I've already done therapy before?

That's okay. Thrive OT Your Way often works with people who want a different, more personalized approach after traditional therapy.

What if I'm not sure if OT is right for me?

A conversation costs nothing.  We'll talk through your concerns and help you determine if OT could be helpful.

What if my goals change over time?

Goals evolve and that's expected. Care plans are flexible and adapt as your needs and priorities change.

Meet Your Therapist

I’m Theresa, an Occupational Therapist with over 34 years of experience helping adults live safely, confidently, and independently at home and in the community. I specialize in working with adults facing neurological, orthopedic, cognitive, and visual-perceptual challenges, including stroke, brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, fall risk, and recovery after illness or injury. I founded Thrive OT Your Way, a mobile outpatient occupational therapy practice serving the Auburn and Opelika area. I come to you—whether that’s your home, workplace, church, or even the grocery store—because therapy is most effective when it happens in the places that matter most to your daily life. My goal is simple: to reduce risk, build confidence, and help you truly thrive in the activities and environments that are important to you.
